Dr. Taha Jabir Al-Alwan

Born in 1935 in Iraq, Dr. Taha Jabir Al-Alwani obtained his Ph.D. in Usul al-Fiqh (Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence) from Al-Azhar University in Cairo. He later gained international recognition for his contributions to Islamic law, Qur’anic studies, and the reform of contemporary Islamic thought. He was the founding president of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) and also served as the chairman of the Fiqh Council of North America. Through his renowned works—such as Adab al-Ikhtilaf fi al-Islam (The Ethics of Disagreement in Islam)—he emphasized the objectives of Shari‘ah (Maqasid al-Shari‘ah), Ijtihad (independent reasoning), and Qur’an-centered intellectual reform. His ideas have had a profound impact on Muslim intellectual circles worldwide.
